Spectroscopic Characterization of Interstellar Ice Analogues
A cryogenic equipment is installed in the laboratory of the CAS group located at MPE in Garching, in order to study the spectroscopic properties of astrophysically-relevant solids. This experiment is being developed with the goal to characterize ice mixtures, silicates, and carbonaceous materials. For this experiment, a combination of spectral techniques is implemented to obtain information regarding their chemical, physical, and optical properties. The cryogenic apparatus is coupled to a FTIR spectrometer and a THz time domain spectrometer. This equipment is able to record the spectra in different spectroscopic regions, and to derive information about the microstructure of solid state samples at different temperatures. When analyzed together with astronomical observations and theoretical models, we will better understand the roles of solid materials for several different environments.
